In this workshop, we will showcase some of the AI applications we use for an ongoing action research project that investigates the potential of Artificial Intelligence in language assessment. The project utilizes avatars, chatbots, and adaptive technology to simulate real-life situations and integrate the three modes of communication: interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational. The main objectives of the project are to evaluate the effectiveness of AI systems in assessing skills and competencies, explore the adaptation of such systems to different performative scenarios, and compare their performance with human evaluators. Constructive feedback and personalized recommendations by the AI system may make assessment more efficient and may improve learners' engagement and adaptability to individual needs and learning styles.
